This bathroom was built into an existing basement which doubled as a laundry area and crossroad into the basement common area. It is a facility centre for the home where access to crawl storage, the basement common area, laundry and a bathroom existed. The passthrough needed to be maintained as a passthrough between the upstairs and the basement common area.

Fitting these functional aspects into the designated space required intelligence and experience. After many options presented to the owners, we decided on this one.
How Does It Work?
The original layout of the space is represented in the left image and it shows that the stairs originally curved to enter directly into what was the facility room. The right image shows the design that was chosen. Running the stairs straight allowed the basement common area to be used independent of the bathroom and laundry and made the space available for the bathroom greater.
Why Choose RRB Design?
The crawlspace proved to be a worry as it could be an eye sore. But with the shower stall where it is located it created a focus for the eye enough that the crawlspace access did not stand out. Nicely, this design kept the right wall open for the crawlspace access to remain where it was originally located and provided plenty of space for access.
